How to Sweat-Proof Your Makeup This Summer

| Posted in blog
Ah, summer. After months of hibernation, it’s finally time to get outside and enjoy everything we love about summer – think cold cocktails, longer days, and glorious sunshine. But with scorching heat comes a sweaty face, melting foundation, smudged eyeshadow, and shiny forehead. It’s frustrating to watch the hard work melt off your face in a matter of a couple of hours, isn’t it!

It doesn’t have to be this way – you can still make the most out of summer and your makeup at the same time. The secret? Sweat-proof makeup.

4 Tips To Sweat-Proof Your Makeup

1. Start with your skincare

Believe it or not, how well you take care of your skin has a huge impact on the durability of your makeup during hot days. It’s not just your routine either, but also the products you use. In winter, when the weather is harsher, you may want to switch to a richer moisturizer or oil-based cleanser to protect your skin. However, in summer, consider switching to a water-based moisturizer and cleanser that won’t leave your face greasy during the day. Also, don’t forget to exfoliate your face to help your skin unclog the pores and remove excess oils to prevent makeup from melting off your face.

2. Don’t forget the SPF

Although it may be tempting to skip applying sunscreen before painting your face and reduce the number of products you use to avoid oily & sweaty skin, this could backfire in the form of burnt skin and sun damage like hyperpigmentation or more defined wrinkles and fine lines. If you’re worried about wearing too many products, look for multi-use beauty products, such as SPF foundation, to replace your regular foundation when it’s too hot outside. That way, you can effortlessly re-apply it every couple of hours and still look your best on the beach.

3. Use primer or setting powder (or both)

While wearing fewer products is certainly a great way to make your makeup last longer in summer, using a primer or finishing powder shouldn’t be one of them. Primer helps set the base for your foundation and holds your makeup in place without that cakey feel, while setting powder really locks in the look and stops it from fading or smudging for hours.

4. Drink plenty of water

Did you know that sweating is one of the most common signs of dehydration? So the more you drink, the less likely it is that you’ll sweat too. Drinking plenty of fluids during hot summer days helps regulate your internal temperature and thus, how much you sweat, so make sure you always have a drink at hand to stay hydrated.
